The Distance Is a Lie: You’re Closer Than You Think

Growth has never been comfortable for me. I’ve always been someone who pushes forward, who sees the bigger picture even when it’s blurry, and who refuses to settle for “good enough.” But that doesn’t mean the process is easy. It’s actually the opposite, it’s full of doubt, discomfort, and moments where I wonder if I should just stick to what’s familiar.
I’ve felt this in my career, in my personal life, and even in my creative journey. Whether it was transitioning roles, stepping into new leadership, or even rediscovering my passion for writing and art, I’ve faced the same resistance every time. That little voice saying, What if this doesn’t work? What if you fail? But here’s what I’ve learned: fear exaggerates the distance. The breakthrough, the opportunity, the version of myself I’m working toward, it’s never as far away as it seems.
Looking back, I can see the moments when I almost let fear hold me back. When I left my comfort zone to take on bigger challenges in procurement, when I decided to turn my experience into something meaningful with The Geri Beri, when I chose to embrace my creativity again all of those moments felt risky at the time. But they weren’t mistakes. They were steps toward something greater.
I’m still growing, still stretching, still learning. And if you’re in that space too where you feel uneasy, uncertain, and maybe even questioning yourself, just know that you’re not alone. The discomfort means you’re evolving. You might not see it clearly now, but trust me, things are closer than they appear.
Keep going. You’re on your way.
